Wordless Poems — Photographs and Poems by Ramtin Firouzian
This book presents a series of 117 black and white photographs, including all of his award-winning works, accompanied by his English poems.
The sequence of his photographs and poems tell a story over eight chapters and create a photobook that resembles an emotional novel. This is one of the reasons why Wordless Poems is so unique.
The book is available in two options: a signed copy with a signed print and a regular copy. You can choose the option you prefer from above.
Ramtin Firouzian says:
Photography, for me, means knocking on the wall or talking from behind it, even when you do not know if someone is sitting on the other side of the wall or not. A good photo whispers in someone’s ear from afar. It makes the impossible possible, just like a good poem.
A real artist likes a single story to tell. He continually goes back to his own story and attempts over and over again to tell that throughout a lifetime.
I always draw mental images of my poems in a notebook next to the same poem. Then, whenever I have my camera with me, I look for my drawings in the street or anywhere I happen to be. If I get the chance and find a scene I have seen in my vision, I take a shot. This way, I turn my poems into photos. I try to translate them into a language comprehensible by the soul of all people.
I’m not trying to convey any meaning at all in this process. Through photography, I try to remind others of common human emotions. I don’t want the viewers to connect with photos only after having analyzed the meaning. My goal is to make the viewer feel my photos. As my beloved T.S. Eliot has said, “Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood.”
