Erin Cross
Born and raised in Manila, Erin Cross completed two pre-medical degrees in Science before following her true love in the Arts through images and words. Formerly known as Erin Nøir of the now-defunct Parallel Planets and Frame Zero, she was also the chief editor of Lomography’s international magazine and the curator-manager of Vetro. Known for her passion for black and white photography, she now focuses on producing content for MONØMANIA, an independent platform for the said craft, as she unceasingly progresses her own style and voice in photography.
Erin has created a diverse body of work encompassing various subjects with a diaristic approach — evoking an intimate, mysterious disposition that is distinctly hers. Her works have been exhibited and featured in the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Cambodia, and Italy. She is an alumnus of Invisible Photographer Asia and the Angkor Photo Workshops.
Erin Cross currently lives and works in Tokyo.
Artist Statement
“My penchant for Japanese photography and the human psyche influence my sensibilities as an image-maker. Currently, I’m drawn to “self-searching” projects, with select scenes and objects serving as vessels of memory and the self as a viewfinder.
While most of my photo series appear dark and morose, my goal is to shed light through self-awareness as I weave stories behind them. To me, black and white images illuminate a different kind of solitude that I find fascinating — like a phantasm: stripped off of hues, but not devoid of spirit.”
