I'm happy to start our Weekly Wrap-Up with the first one dedicated to the launch of The Phooks. The project was launched on the first week of April, now it is growing thanks to you and the community. Thus I'd like to tell you about what we have achieved to the moment.

The Purpose

There's a single idea behind — to build a place where Publishers and their photobooks meet Collectors, present the work they create, sell and buy the books they love. I was developing the website and building the library during the last three weeks to make this happen.

Efforts and your support bring results: we have 11 books from 7 artists and a dozen of submission in progress.

See all new titles in the Library.

The Common Values

Artists look for exposure and sales, Collectors — for the unique books. The Phooks provides both and the community shows its interest and support for the idea.

These website stats exceed my expectations, always open for anyone on the "About" page. With your contribution, which means a lot:

Exposure For Artists

There's no single $ spent on ads to achieve these figures, but lots of shares and publications in social networks. We're announcing every title from the Library in many channels to make the broadest possible audience aware of new releases.

Follow us anywhere:

Meaningful Stories for Everyone

Now you can see The Phooks as a Marketplace which allows to buy and sell, but we love photobooks for the stories they tell and the conversation around. So here's what to expect in the future:

  • interviews with artists & publishing collectives;
  • creation process backstages;
  • guest reviews;
  • industry news;
  • and many more, but step by step.

Some ideas will go live really soon, others — anywhere later.

Other Perks to Expect

There are a lot of service and technical improvements in the top my To-Do List.

For everyone:

  • Cheaper shipping rates
    Currently available Registered Trackable Shipping rates provided by Post services in a Seller's country is expensive in some cases, so we'll add a regular untrackable post shipment option. A bit more risky, but cheaper.

  • Shipping Rates Calculation on the Cart Page
    Done and testing. F. ex.: if you order from two different Artists or Publishers at a time you will pay shipping rates for both shipments. The calculator will help to make rates clear and transparent.

  • Publisher, Artist and Product pages design

  • "New Releases" email notifications
For Publishers and Artists:
  • Just added: lower sales commissions for cheaper products
    Products priced less than $15 have a lower commission, comfortable for the Seller, but still covering transaction fees.

  • Submission via Sellers Account
    You Sign Up and Add your book to the store yourself, it goes for Review and published when Approved.

  • Custom product description fields
    Currently done, but testing. Will need some improvements.

  • Product variants
    Sell different options or editions of your books: with prints, soft- or hardcovers, special editions, and sets. Coming soon.

And many more. Welcome to the comments with your ideas.

Help The Phooks Grow

A website visit, newsletter subscription, an order or a link sharing — everything matters and fuels up growth. Please tell your friends about The Phooks, whether they are artists or photo book fans.

Sincerely yours,
Max & The Phooks
